The Committee's principal goals for 2005-2006 are as follows:

  • Provide leadership within the Norman weather community via regular meetings that serve as a crossroads for all stakeholders;
  • Educate Norman residents and the State's citizenry regarding the weather enterprise and ways in which it contributes to economic growth and improves quality of life;
  • Foster the creation, through the NEDC, of relevant public relations materials regarding the weather enterprise that can be used to inform State and Federal officials, as well as prospective companies considering locating in Norman;
  • Work in concert with the University of Oklahoma regarding the evolving mission of the new National Weather Center, particularly in the context of policy, interaction with industry and public-private partnerships;
  • Work with the NEDC, the Chancellor for Higher Education, the Secretary of Commerce, and the Governor's Office to create a Commercial Weather Enterprise Development Fund that enables Oklahoma-based weather and weather-related industries to participate fairly in local public-private partnerships and commercialization activities;
  • Encourage the involvement of members of the local meteorology enterprise in community affairs and city/county governance by advocating their placement on councils, committees and boards.
  • Promote the creation of the National Weather Museum and Science Center in Norman.
  • Encourage participation of non-meteorology professionals on the Chamber Weather Committee.
