Candidate's Forum Held

The Government Affairs Committee of Norman Chamber of Commerce sponsored a public forum for candidates for Norman municipal offices on the evening of Wednesday, February 20, 2008, in the city council chamber of Norman City Hall, 201 W. Gray St.

Seven of nine candidates took part in the forum. All three Ward 2 candidates, Tom Kovach, Chebon Marshall and Michael McKee, participated. All three Ward 4 candidates, Carol Dillingham, Chris Jingozian and Gregory Jungman, participated. One Ward 6 candidate, Jim Griffith, participated. Lou Mansfield, Ward 6 candidate had a prior engagement. Dan Quinn, Ward 8 incumbent, is running unopposed and wanted to allow candidates with opponents more time to speak and did not participate.

The format was as follows:

  • Each candidate was introduced and given 90 seconds to make an opening statement.

  • Questions were submitted by the audience and read by Steve Corley. Because the Chamber is business organization, questions focused primarily on business related issues.

  • Each candidate was asked to pose one question, in 20 seconds or less, to his/her opponent(s).

  • Each candidate had one minute to respond to each question.

  • Each candidate had two minutes to make closing remarks.

The forum was recorded by Cox Communications, broadcast live and will be telecast multiple times on Cable Access Channel 20. For more information, contact Anna-Mary Suggs at the Norman Chamber of Commerce, 321-7260, or email at anna-mary.suggs@normanchamber.com.
